As women are oppressed on the basis of their sex, control over their own reproductive capacity, sexuality, and labor is absolutely required for the liberation of all women. A woman’s right to her bodily autonomy is linked to the ability to earn a living, be independent, and to have agency over her own life.
Since Roe vs. Wade legalized abortion rights in 1973, access to abortion has been eroded over a period of decades, starting with the Hyde Amendment targeting poor women, followed by increasingly restrictive state laws, and the forced closure of clinics. Now, the Supreme Court is on the brink of reversing even the limited protections offered by Roe, which would be a major setback for the status of women in the U.S. This requires an immediate response.
We call for rebuilding an independent mass movement in the streets to demand women’s right to abortion, and for mass resistance to repressive anti-abortion laws. This is how women won legal abortion in the first place. Women cannot count on the corporate duopoly to secure their rights.
We unequivocally support a woman’s right to abortion on demand without apology or exception.
