Gender-confused children need a parent's boundaries

Parents today face challenges unlike any we posed for our own parents only a generation ago.

First know, its not your fault. We are up against a powerful and well-financed industry willing to prioritize their bottom line over your child’s well-being.

Today a powerful lobby for gender ideology has captured institutions, both public and private, which are mis-educating our children to advance an effort to groom them for lifelong dependency on expensive puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries marketed as gender affirmation health care.

In some jurisdictions, agencies of the state threaten the custody of our children . . .

  • if we dissent from the science-denialism of gender ideology
  • if we fail to mouth the tropes and platitudes
  • If we fail to use a neo-pronoun or recognize a neo-identity
  • or fail to abdicate our responsibility to be the adults in the room as our young test their boundaries, form their identities, and learn to make their own way in the world.

No one is born in the ‘wrong’ body. Young people must be protected from exploitation by the pharmaceutical industry and the powerful off-label drugs they market directly to them. They do so absent informed consent, and too often over parental objection. This industry pathologizes the psychological distress of puberty which leads too many minors to feel dissociated from their bodies.Young people should not be pathologized because they reject sex stereotyping and the sexist limitations imposed on them. The vast majority of trans-identified minors, if protected from medical interventions, will come to accept their natal bodies and are highly likely to grow up to be healthy gay, lesbian, and bisexual adults.

Social media tells kids they can give informed consent to irreversible experimental life-changing elective procedures with long-term negative health consequences, but children by definition cannot give informed consent as they do not possess the maturity or experience to do so.. Some children may think they want to pursue these dangerous, experimental interventions. But this is when parents must step in to protect them and set healthy boundaries.

The Cass Report and other recent systematic reviews make clear the absence of longitudinal data leaves medical professionals unable to predict the adverse life-long effects of ‘gender-affirming’ medical intervention, including cross-sex hormones, mutilating surgeries and chemical castration.

Its ok to say “NO” because the already known adverse outcomes from these interventions include:

  • surgical complications
  • chronic infections
  • bone and brain underdevelopment
  • sterility
  • loss of sexual function
  • undeveloped secondary sex characteristics
  • shortened lifespans.
